About

Jerry L. Woodard

Thirty-eight years studying the mind. Six books. Still learning.

Jerry L. Woodard grew up in church. He loved God, he loved His Word, and he wanted to do what he had been called to do. What he could not explain was why his own mind kept wanting other things.

That gap — between the faith he held and the life he actually lived — is not an unusual problem. It is only an unusual thing to admit. It made real messes of his life more than once, and it is the reason he started reading everything he could find about how the mind works. That reading became a habit, and the habit became thirty-eight years.

The turning point was John Assaraf’s The Answer. It described the subconscious plainly: where wants and desires live, good and bad alike, running underneath the decisions a person believes they are making consciously. It also described how that layer gets written — by repetition, by what a person hears and says often enough to stop questioning.

The implication was immediate. If the subconscious learns whatever it is given often enough, it can be given Scripture. Not positive thinking. Not affirmations invented out of hopefulness. The Word itself, turned into the first person and spoken until the part of the mind that runs on its own begins to agree with the spirit that already agrees with God.

He knew he should write it down. Then he did not, for years. The idea stayed alive in his heart while the manuscript sat unfinished — which is its own kind of evidence for everything the books are about.

He finished the first one in 2024. Turn Bible Verses Into Your Own Power-Packed Affirmations! teaches the method through a story. Five more followed: Anchored in God’s Word on the foundations beneath the practice, 365 Days to a Transformed Life for readers who need daily structure, Mindset Mastery on the cycle that runs from thought to belief and back again, Living the Word with two hundred affirmations across ten areas of life, and Breaking Strongholds of the Soul, which stands outside the series and goes directly at fear, shame, anger, grief, envy, rejection and guilt.

The Living by the Word series is planned as seven books. Two are still being written.

He serves as a member and associate minister at First Baptist Church of Delair, and lives in New Jersey with his wife, Diane.

He is still learning. He expects to be.

The mark

Why a shield and a sword

Living by the Word — shield and sword mark

The mark on these books began as a necklace. Diane gave it to him — a shield and a sword — because the name Jerry means mighty warrior, and she wanted him to carry the meaning of his own name where he could see it.

It turned out to be the whole idea in one object. Scripture names both pieces: the shield of faith, which stops what is thrown at you, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God — the only weapon in the armor that is not defensive.

A sword is no use in a drawer. That is what these books are about — taking the Word out of the drawer, putting it in your own mouth, and using it on the thoughts that have been using you.

Ephesians 6:16-17

Lift up the [protective] shield of faith… and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
